The 35th Olympia Film Festival at the Capitol Theater

OLYMPIA, WA – The Olympia Film Society presents the 35th Annual Olympia Film Festival from November 9-17, 2018. The festival’s theme this year revolves around “Inclusion, Independence, Discovery,” as OFS has curated over 50 features and shorts created by a diverse range of filmmakers and artists, with fresh new voices to expand everyone’s palate.

We had a wonderful group of festival programmers this year, said film programmer Robert Patrick. “Everyone from Violet Lucca of the New York Film Critics Circle to Christopher Day of the Northwest Film Forum chipped in. The films are carefully curated, and we're excited to share them with Olympia.”

This year the film festival will also expand to a satellite location, Octapas Café, located at 414 4th Ave E, Olympia, WA 98501. Octapas will host engaging panels and workshops that are free and open to the public, as well as a late-night disco party and a benefit comedy show for the nonprofit Sidewalk. Interview arrangements with any guests can be made with marketing director Jonah Barrett.

40 guests are slated to appear at this year’s festival. “We're absolutely thrilled to have doubled our guest list for this year's festival. Academy Award-nominated director Whit Stillman will be at the Capitol Theater, presenting a three film retrospective (The Last Days of Disco, Metropolitan, Damsels in Distress). We're also excited to have filmmaker Sophy Romvari, fresh off of her appearance at this year's Toronto International Film Festival, presenting her acclaimed short, Norman Norman. We also want to spotlight celebrated storyteller Avery Trufelman of 99% Invisible,” said Patrick.

The Olympia Film Festival began its run in 1984, operating out of the Capitol Theater beginning in 1986. The historic Capitol Theater serves as a space where the Olympia community gathers in order to connect, empower, and support the arts.
