BRUSSELS  — In a bid to tackle the growing issue of micro-plastic pollution, the European Union has officially prohibited the sale of glitter, encompassing non-biodegradable body glitter and makeup.

The ban, which could impact items ordered and shipped from EU member states, has been met with enthusiasm from environmental advocates. However, the absence of glitter for celebratory purposes is a disappointing consequence of this decision.
