More Information (95.3 KGY is not responsible for external websites)
Founded in 1973, Senior Services for South Sound is a nonprofit organization that has been dedicated to supporting seniors in our community for more than 50 years. Our mission is simple: Improving the quality of life for people as they age.
This year, we have a brand new fundraising event unlike anything we’ve ever done. We have partnered with an urban rappelling company called Over The Edge. On June 29, 2024, a group of seniors and community members will be rappelling down a building at The Hub at Lacey to raise vital funds for Senior Services for South Sound.
Beginning at noon on that day, we’ll be holding a community-wide ground party at Huntamer Park, the base of the 4565 building – home to the Washington State Gambling Commision – down which intrepid folks will be rappelling. There will be music and entertainment for the community to enjoy as they watch folks rappel down.
Currently, 26 people have signed up to rappel down the building. They each are raising $1,000 or more for Senior Services for South Sound from their friends, family and social networks. Everyone of them who reaches their personal goal of $1,000 will be able to rappel. There is still plenty of time for other folks to join them!
One reason we chose this event is to demonstrate, in the words of Executive Director Brian Windrope, “that bravery and service above self are traits found among all ages.”
We invite folks to come to Huntamer Park on June 29 to witness the inspiring sight of seniors rappelling down The Hub at Lacey to support a cause they believe in!
